Garmin Touch Screen GPSMAP 700 Series
Garmin announced the GPSMAP 700 series, touch screen controlled stand alone chartplotters and radar sea with built-in sonar. One model in this series Garmin GPSMAP 740 comes loaded with maps for all offshore U.S. coastal areas, including Alaska and Hawaii, and even Explorer Charts for the Bahamas.
Another model is the GPSMAP 720, the same features with the 740 but designed for non-US markets. If you want to sonar even though you have to find ‘s’ in names like the GPSMAP 740 and GPSMAP 720. This will make you a 1kW sonar transceiver that can find fish targets and terrain features as far as 2,000 feet down time.
The new GPSMAP 700 is much more affordable than previous Garmin GPSMAP chartplotters. GPSMAP 720 has a MSRP of $ 1400 and the GPSMAP 720 has a MSRP of $ 1600. GPSMAP 740 is $ 1500, and the GPSMAP 740 is $ 1700. You have to wait until April 2010 for availability. [via navigadget]
